Best for
Couples, special occasions and discerning first-time visitors to Bangkok.
Bangkok · Chao Phraya River
A legendary riverside hotel where Bangkok’s history, gracious service and contemporary luxury come together.
Why we recommend it
For more than 150 years, Mandarin Oriental has welcomed travellers to its peaceful position beside the Chao Phraya River. The hotel feels distinctly Bangkok: teakwood shuttle boats cross the water, restaurants spill out towards the river and the service is polished without feeling impersonal.
It is an excellent choice for a first or final stay in the city, particularly for travellers who want to balance sightseeing with time to enjoy an exceptional hotel.
“Choose this hotel when the stay itself should be one of the highlights of the journey—not simply somewhere to sleep between excursions.”

A closer look

At a glance
Couples, special occasions and discerning first-time visitors to Bangkok.
On the Chao Phraya River, within Bangkok’s atmospheric Creative District.
Two outdoor pools, a celebrated spa and a dedicated fitness and wellness centre.
Twelve restaurants and bars, from refined fine dining to relaxed riverside meals.

Location & arrival
The hotel sits directly beside the river, with private teakwood boats linking it to IconSiam and Saphan Taksin BTS station. This makes journeys across Bangkok part of the experience, rather than simply a transfer.
We can arrange private airport transfers and build your sightseeing around the hotel’s location, allowing time to enjoy the river, spa and restaurants.
Rooms & suites
There are 331 rooms, including 60 suites. Many look towards the river or city and the hotel is known for attentive butler service. We will recommend the category that best suits your budget and the way you plan to use the hotel.

Food, drink & atmosphere
Dining ranges from relaxed breakfasts at The Verandah to Thai evenings beside the water and celebrated international cuisine. The setting changes beautifully from bright mornings to lantern-lit nights.

Good to know
Room category matters. We will discuss whether a river view, balcony or additional living space is worth prioritising for your particular stay.
Allow time for the hotel. A packed sightseeing schedule would miss much of what makes this property special; at least one unhurried afternoon is worthwhile.
Everything is tailored. Hotel rates change by season and room type, so we quote the complete holiday around your dates rather than display a price that may not be available.
